Youth peer educators
These are groups of youth volunteers between 13 and 21 years of age who Profamilia Joven trains on sexual and reproductive health issues, always with a focus on equality between women and men and respect for sexual and reproductive rights.
Their work is focused on community outreach, working with un-schooled populations as well as with neighborhood communities, schools and groups of friends.
Youth peer educators:
Are a permanent support for Profamila Joven in educational, political and social spaces.
Are agents of transformation for communities.
Generate and facilitate communication channels among young people to broach the topic of sexuality. Permanently support the services offered by Profamilia and our Youth Centers.
At school
The high number of pregnant teens in educational institutions and the questions that young people have regarding sexual and reproductive health are factors that have made Profamilia decide to go to the schools and provide counseling to students, teachers and parents.
Sexual and reproductive health services that Profamilia offers in the schools include:
Group educational activities
Workshops and trainings by Profamilia professionals providing answers to questions that students might have about sexual and reproductive health.
Individual or group counseling
Adolescents and young people can approach Profamilia professionals, whether individually or in small groups to resolve any doubts that they may have or to receive counseling.
Medical services
Profamilia also offers medical services to students after they have participated in some form of counseling mentioned above and if they feel the need to speak with or consult a doctor.
The programs that Profamilia develops for each school is unique and exclusive, designed according to the interests, needs and expectations of all members of the school – directors, teachers, students and parents.
